About Real Software

Real Software, the cross-platform software development experts, provide solutions for people who want to create and deliver cross-platform software for the desktop and the web.

Our award-winning, cross-platform development tool, Real Studio (formerly Realbasic), is available in four editions: Real Studio Personal Edition, for hobbyists and students, Real Studio Professional Edition, for part time developers, Real Studio Web Edition, for web development and Real Studio Enterprise Edition, for full time developers.

Real Studio is a full-featured software development environment suited to creating all kinds of applications, from utilities to enterprise-class applications. It compiles to machine code, uses native interface controls and has object-oriented features such as inheritance, polymorphism, and interfaces.

When Real Studio first came out in 1998 (as REALbasic), it was only available for the Mac. In 1999, Real Software added cross-platform compilation, allowing users to create applications for both Mac and Windows. The option to compile for Linux was added in 2005. Real Studio Enterprise Edition was added in 2009 for professional, full time developers. In December of 2010 Real Studio Web Edition, for easy and powerful web development, was introduced.

Real Studio is now available in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese and Simplified and Traditional Chinese.

Real Software was founded in 1996 by Geoff Perlman, who aimed to enable ordinary people do extraordinary things with software. Perlman frequently writes about software and cross-platform development. His articles have been published in Dr. Dobb's Journal, VentureBeat and the SD Times. Real Software currently serves more than 150,000 users in over 130 countries. Their users range from commercial developers to Java, C++ and Visual Basic Developers, to students and hobbyists.

Real Software, which is headquartered in Austin, Texas, is privately held, privately financed and consistently profitable.
