I have a simple application with 1 editfield control and 1
pushbutton control. Both controls have the font set to Osaka
and contain the same initial Japanese text/caption. When I run
the standalone version of this application the editfield control
correctly shows the Japanese text. The pushbutton does not
(It shows the Roman equivalent it seems).

This is with RB3.5.2 Carbon.

On OS 9 or OS X?

There was "[OS X.1]" at the top of my email, so OS X yes. With OS
9 I don't get any Japanese at any point, probably because I don't
have Japanese LK installed like you mentioned, that's OK for now.

Now when I try with RB4.0.2 Carbon/OS X Japanese both controls
correctly display the Japanese text in the standalone app (I assume
it would work with RB3.5.2 Carbon/OS X Japanese too).

Don't assume -- test.

I would love to, that's why I had this part in my email ;) :
"P.S. If that's what I need, could I download RB3.5.2 PPC/Carbon
Japanese somewhere still?"

Because I currently don't have 3.5.2 PPC/Carbon Japanese here :( And
I don't see it (easily) available for download. But IIRC RealSoft
have an FTP with older downloads and/or are (have been in the past)
so nice to put them online at request?

Should I use the Japanese RB version when I want to release a
Japanese version of my app?

No, it doesn't matter once you've built your app which version of RB was used to build it.

Then I'm at a loss.
To reiterate: The app made with RB3.5.2 Carbon (And for a more
fair comparison, RB4.0.2 Carbon/OS X now too, I forgot to
mention) only has Japanese in the editfield control
and not in the pushbutton. But when I make the app with RB4.0.2
Carbon/OS X Japanese both controls contain Japanese characters.
(And all apps are made with region set to Japan and Language set
to Japanese, and tested under OS X.1)

Ofcourse the easy solution is to build the Japanese version
of the app with the Japanese version of RB, but I'm still eager
to find out why it doesn't behave like it should. What would a
logical next step me? I could put the RB test project I use online
somewhere, as well as the 'failing' app and the working one? (To
compare outcome on another machine, perhaps my machine is at
fault?)

Thanks,
Regards,
Dimitri
