That's what I thought. Any idea what minimum version of DirectX is
required?

I don't think so, I'm not playing any other sounds. The fact that it
works on one windows machine, but not another seems to imply something
is missing. Both are running Win98, but of course it is nearly
impossible to say what extra "goodies" each has on it!
