I actually found the answer to my own question (which was: why, after
setting up a second user under OS X on my iBook, RB wouldn't launch for
that user). I called Real Software, and Lorin Rivers graciously took
time from his busy day to explain the following:
First, the Real Basic license is per machine, so setting up a second
user on the same machine does not require a second license from Real
Software. (I had originally thought maybe RB wouldn't launch for the
second user because of a license restriction).
The reason REALBasic wouldn't launch was a permissions issue. Once I
went back, and designated my entire REALBasic folder (including all its
contents) as "read and write" for all groups and users, the problem went
away (funny that the OS just refuses to launch the app, instead of
putting up a message that the user doesn't have necessary permissions,
but my Unix friend explained that is a very Unix-like thing to do).
I did have to re-enter my serial numbers under the second user, but
again, Lorin indicated this is fine if it is just another user on the
same machine.
Thanks, Lorin! We in the RB community are so fortunate to have a company
(Real Software) that is so supportive of its users, and so passionate
about its software. REALBasic has just gotten better and better through
their relentless dedication and hard work.
