Strastduite to everybody,
On my return from Coventry I had to go up to the far north to
participate in field work. Up there I: A) Enjoyed the midnight sun; B)
Watched glaciers melt with increasing speed; C) Moved an RB project to
VB.Net (what else can you do with a crippled 4.5 demo).
Conclusions from A: You don't need much sleep with 24 hours of daylight.
Conclusions from B: Everybody should learn how to swim or buy a boat.
Conclusions from C:
1. It is not a minor task to move a bigger than small RB project to
VB.Net.
2. It is the best way to make a serious transfer of an RB project
to Win.
3. Without Win IDE and debugger it is almost impossible to make a
really good win app.
4. Moving from VB6 to VB.Net is not completely trivial.
5. WinXP and VB.Net is a good and rather solid duo. But the
complexity is daunting.
6. RS will probably release an IDE on Win. That is not a threat but
an opportunity.
7. With the right approach to technology and marketing, there will
be a good niche for RB on Win.
8. RS will after item 7 be rich enough to correct all bugs we still
see in 4.5.
I wonder why I have a 20 dollar bill nailed to the wall?
Boris
