Internal Modem: Yes. The Serial control can do that, since the internal
modem is simply an (additional) serial port.

USB: Not directly. USB is more complicated than a serial interface. You
communicate with USB devices by accessing the driver supplied by the
manufacturer, often a Shared Lib. But if you mean a USB-to-Serial
adaptor, that's just accessed viaa the Serial control, too.
