Its really pretty easy. If you just want an installer you can have it for
free with a 5 second annoyance screen. The basic Install Factory is $79.95
one time charge. If you want to use the anti-piracy plug-ins you can
purchase a Standalone copy for $349.95 one time charge. With the Standalone
comes 1 Million Product Keys. The user would enter the Product Key and CALL
you for an unlock code. No automatic unlocking over the Internet (Hence,
the term Standalone). If you would rather the user be able to unlock their
protected installers over the internet rather than calling you then you
would need a subscription. The annual subscription fees are $499.95 for 5
products with 100 Product Keys for each product (500 Product Keys) or
$499.95 for 1 product with 5,000 Product Keys. The prices for volume
subscriptions go up from there.
The bottom line is if you just need an installer, use the free one. You can
do most anything you can with one of the expensive installers but you aren't
out any cash.
If you are shipping a commercial piece of software and don't want to seem
too cheap to purchase an installer, then you'll need to spend $79.95.
Install Factory was developed specifically for FileMaker developers but has
been extended to protect REALbasic applications. Director and 4D plug-ins
are on the way. The original product SPI had no installer features, just
the anti-piracy protection. That meant that FileMaker folks had to buy an
installer, too. Rather than make them purchase two separate products, I
decided to include all of the installer functionality I thought they (or
you) would need. If I've left anything out, just let me know.
The math is pretty simple. If they couldn't pirate your software, how many
more copies would you sell?
