In the past I have always installed the new release of REALbasic and
copied the previous version to a non-boot drive. With all of the
complaints about RB 5.0 I would like to keep 4.5.3 usable while
testing 5.0. Is there any problem having more than one version going
at once?
Only if AppleTalk is active.
When I put the serial number in for the upgrade to 5 does that
cause problems for running 4.5.3?
AFAIK It shouldn't but I remember a thread about 10.1.x causing boot
problems. I never saw them in 10.2.x.
Just trying to find out if there are any special steps that have to
be taken. Worst come to worst I could just boot off the other drive
and run OS 10.1.5 and RB 4.5.3 instead of OS 10.2.4 and RB 5.0.
Thanks for any guidance you may afford.
At this moment, I use 9.2.2 more than OSX 10.2.4. so I may be
incorrect on some of my answers. I only keep the primary version I
use (4.5.3) on my boot volume/ partition and keep all of my old,
alphas/betas on a separate volume/partition. I then put aliases of
the other versions in both OneClick and my desktop. Opening a project
in any version is only a matter of dragging to the alias or double
clicking on the project. Remember though that any open version is
selected first.
I also have had strange results occur when running in 5.x versions
when there are more than one open. I usually use it only for code
exchange and that's even easier in later versions.
I hope this helps.
