rb.Extreme is a new online community for REALbasic developers.
Developed from the ground up using tools built with REALbasic,
rb.Extreme provides a collaborative learning and trading space for
REALbasic developers.
The main interaction areas include a Question and Answer [Q&A] Forum and
a Tutorials database. Contributors are rewarded by a point system.
Interesting idea, though I see a couple problems with it:
First and foremost, there's nothing remotely RB-related at that site.
You shouldn't be announcing the site before it exists!
Second, it sounds like it'll be a web-based forum. While it's always
possible this will work with the addition of the point system as
incentive, such forums have always failed in the past. It's been
said here time and again that many folks don't like web forums. Some
do, but it seems to be a pattern in the RB community that most of
those who are "in-the-know" and willing to share that knowledge
prefer to do it via this mailing list. You're competing with
something that works pretty well. That doesn't mean it shouldn't be
tried -- just don't put inordinate hope in its success.
That said, I think that a database of tutorials organized by subject
could be *incredibly* useful! Some of the RTFM questions that pop up
from time to time could be answered with a quick reference to a
tutorial on the subject. That's much better than the hit-or-miss
answers that these questions sometimes get.
