Could anybody tell me if it is possible to have an textbox format text
in vertical columns, and have the columns appear right to left, the
way Japanese text is supposed to be displayed?

Actually, the only thing you'd likely fined vertically in Japanese are
books and newspapers. If, for example, you tried to create a Japanese
email application that used vertical text, I doubt any Japanese person
would buy it.

Thanks for the replies, but it's not advice on whether I should use vertical text or not that I'm asking for. Maybe I should explain what I'm trying to do. The user will input addresses which will be formated for printing. This printing will be done onto envelopes or postcards. Please don't anybody tell me that in Japan it's also common to print addresses out horizontally, because I already know this. I want to offer the user the option of printing the addresses out vertically. This is VERY common in Japan. I would also like to be able to display the formatting of the address before printing. Any ideas?
Thanks for the help.
