Joe,

This is what I'm seeing, now.
I can compile the app as Mach-O or PEF.
The compiled app appears in the folder with the RB project and the text file. As long as I leave it in that folder, I can open the compiled app and it works fine. If I drag it out onto the desktop and open it, it breaks. If I drag it back in, it works.

Thanks,
Albert

In what way? And on what OS, and if the answer is OS X, are you compiling as PEF or Mach-O?

It doesn't work in that it works up to the point where should access the text file, then does nothing.

How does it do nothing? It quits? It acts as though the string is empty? It's supposed to beep but it doesn't beep?

May I send you the (simple) project off-list?

Sure, the simpler the better. But remember to include the file too.

Best,
- Joe
