Bloat? There's no bloat - the only reason syntax coloring is slow is
because it's entirely driven by Regular Expressions, while BBEdit uses
C plugins to do its syntax coloring.
However, I still like BBEdit 7 for my text editing needs. I only boot
up SubEthaEdit if I want to do some HTML with live rendering preview.
And BTW, a while ago I suggested to the authors of SubEthaEdit that
they implement a plugin mechanism where you can write Cocoa code and
bundle it into a plugin and use that for syntax coloring instead of
regular expressions, and they indicated that something like that was
already in the works, so there is hope for SubEthaEdit.
My other tools? REALbasic 5.5. The only plugins I use are database
plugins if I need them, occasionally CFPlugin, and with my latest
application release the new GZip plugin. I also have CodeWarrior 8.3
installed if I want to make new plugins. In terms of other
applications, I use Photoshop CS if I need an icon, and then to
construct it I've used Icon Brush in the past, but for my latest
application release (IPS Patcher) I tested IconBuilder Pro, which is
very nice.

BBEdit Lite 6.2.2 (text editing )
I switched to SubEthaEdit, because of its excellent syntax coloring
for HTML, XHTML, SQL, PHP, and XML. Plus the whole group editing via
Rendezvous thing is way cool.
But it's slow, and has a bit too much bloat. I use it for group
editing, but BBEdit 7 for personal editing.
