QuickBooks access?

I've been asked by someone if it's possible to read from a QuickBooks 
database generically to pull out information. I've never used 
QuickBooks, so I'm very unfamiliar with it, and the list archive shows a 
little interest in it from Jan '03, but not much since then. Does anyone 
know if this is doable? I'm developing in Windows, and the app would 
most likely run on Windows as well (though I can't say for sure), so a 
platform agnostic solution would be great.
