In regards to why I would buy the book (instead of just relying on
magazines, web articles, newsgroups, etc):
1) I like having one item to carry around, though I've simulated it
somewhat by printing the articles I like and putting them in a notebook.
2) To me, perhaps the biggest advantage is that books offer a consistency
of voice and a logical path, chapter to chapter. Magazines, to me, are
better suited to teach one specific technique or topic, and the articles
have to make assumptions about what you may or may not already know. The
book author can write a chapter and expect you to know what he's already
covered in earlier chapters.
