I see three download versions for Linux. Linux (tgz), Linux (Novel), and Linux (Redhat).

I don't want to offend anyone, especially since I've never posted here before, and specifically I'd rather not offend you, but it seems like you might want to familiarize yourself with linux packaging some more before even getting into programming for it. If you haven't wrapped your head around it enough to sort out which of those 3 packages is going to work best for you, then it might be high time to find a good NUG for your particular distro of linux. It isn't like we know what version of linux you're even using, since you don't seem to have mentioned it anywhere, even on the off chance that someone still feels like helping you out with it at that level. Linux isn't anywhere near as challenging to install things on as it used to be, but it's still got a steep learning curve, especially since the various distros now often handle everything just that much differently.
