In my case, because I'm using the VCF (Version Control Format) I can see when I checkin changes which files have been touched and do a very quick diff at the point at which I check things in. That is now a standard practice for me as there are fixes in 2007r3 which I require so I am apprehensively living with the (very occasional) source mangling behaviour. Note that having a Macbook Pro with 3GB RAM probably helps increase the rarity of these problems for me.
