If the other app defines the proper font based on the xfont full  
name, it's most likely displaying what is expected.  A normal full  
name for a font in X11 looks like this:

-adobe-courier-bold-r-normal--14-140-75-75-m-90-iso8859-1

This gets down to the serious nit level.  The fields define far more  
info that selecting just a font name and point size will define.

Hmm, depending on whether I set my xfs font server to choose 100dpi  
fonts first or second changes what I see here.

man xfs should tell you where to look.
