That's a bit of a presumptuous statement, don't you think, especially coming
from a self-proclaimed hobbyist? I wouldn't expect an American "hobbyist" to
come to REALworld unless they made enough money off of their hobby to cover the
costs, much less trek halfway across the globe. I'm beginning to make a little
money off my one publicly released application, so I would be able to justify
the cost. I just got lucky getting the Day Job to pay for the trip this year
without using my (meager) profits and my holiday bonus.

Going to Europe is a much more reasonable proposition than going to Oz, even in
a professional capacity. Honestly, I was happily surprised to see the Aussies
that I did.

That is an unfair statement. I was talking with Geoff about all of the
internationalization that goes on with RB and all of its documentation. It was
quite astounding to hear how much work has to go into just one upgrade. I think
RS has recently made great strides given the size of the company.
I don't think anyone is debating the fact that there could be more information
distributed to the rest of the globe. One could argue that about anything,
really. But, I think there is a matter of perspective here. RS for its massive
customer base is a surprisingly small company churning out a lot of work, and
can only focus on so many things at one time. They were saying that the
planning for the next year's conference begins almost as soon as the current
one is over. Adding video to the mix, even by hiring a dedicated video firm to
do the work, is shockingly expensive and adds a lot of elements to an already
hectic mix.
They do a lot of good work despite the flak they receive (deserved and
otherwise) on the NUG and Forums. Cut them some slack.
Cheers
/p (who has friends and relatives in the UK)
