Really, you shouldn't even be considering doing so. The framework is  
clearly marked Beta - not for use in production code because it is  
likely to crash, corrupt, and eat puppies for breakfast. You should  
keep using the built-in Sprite Surface for the time being in your  
"real" projects while you experiment with SuperSpriteSurface on the  
side.

Why don't you ask him what his plans are? I can say with confidence  
that John has been in the RB community for many, many years.
