Yes


Quicktime can work for older swf versions, but
nothing modern enough to be feasible for a "chat world".

Partially true from QuickTime 7.13 thru 7.3.0, but no longer true as of QuickTime 7.3.1 and later : see http://iscreensaver.com/qt713.shtml

As a result, HTMLViewer is the way to go...
