Red5 the opsnsource, flash media server. In a chat system, you
normally need a server.
For flash, if all you need is chat capability, you can do everything
with flash, php, mysql.
If you need video, then you would use Red5. The streaming server. It's
free and it works now.

In the server end, RED5 which relies on java. On the client end use
FLEX or flash and deploy as an AIR application.
Never heard of FLEX or AIR..
They said they were "kicking around the idea of making there own
chat" not sure why,
perhaps for in house use, not really sure.
