You don't own the software. You bought a license to use the software
on an Apple-labeled Macintosh.
If someone buys an RB upgrade, do you think they should be able to
use it if they didn't previously purchase a full RB license?
In Apple's case, the full OSX license is only sold with their
systems. It's completely inappropriate (and illegal) to use the OSX
upgrade software on a system that doesn't have a basic Macintosh
license to begin with.
