All i know about RB's odbc abilities can be found here:

Well, you shouldn't have to worry about these things. If Advantage provides
odbc connectivity, the standard way of connecting should just work.

BTW, Christian's jdbc classes are also worth looking at, i'm trifling around
with them a bit (with postgres, though), and they haven't misbehaved so far
(also speedwise). Anyone looking for alternatives to RB's database API
should take a closer look at them. What especially appeals to me is the fact
that the jdbc source code can be looked at online.
