So now that I am making a stronger push into the windows world, I
am starting to get some dr watson reports from testeres, user.dmp
files for the most part. What are some of the tools to look at
these and are there things I can set up in RB to get more value
from them? Most of my building at this point is still happening
on Macs but I do have windows machines that I remote debug to, as
well as testing natively.
Are there any good guides and pointers out there, not restricted
to Realbasic insight, but that certainly would be nice. Also are
there any tools to look at the output files on the mac or do I
just fire up windows machines to look at them?
well get your testers to follow these steps to get you more useful
dumps http://webkit.org/quality/crashlogs.html
Right I sent them to the same link, I was just wondering how one
reads the files that are returned, I foolishly opened on in a text
editor and it was non-sensical. Then on a windows machine I used
drwatson from the command line and got that window but how does one
open the dmp files you are sent, do you open and view them in
drwatson and do you need to do anything special to connect the
symbols to the function names (I know I am totally spoiled from the
crash reporter on mac os x)
Ah yes
Open them in Visual studio
Not sure if VS Express can read them as well.
It is free
The crash logs on OS X are a treat when you have to deal with crash
logs :)
