Yes -- I find it interesting that this is a novel concept to anyone! A
web browser is nothing but a general-purpose client. You can, in RB or
any other language, instead make a specific-purpose client. The
performance and user experience is usually better when you do. The big
drawback (as I see it) is the need to deploy desktop software to all
users; in some cases it is much easier to get users to use the software
(i.e. web browser) they already have installed.
