Basically... they can't be bothered to even LOOK at the plugin folder
anymore. They don't run it, open it, nothing.

You spent two days...
RS could solve the problem in 2 hours. Just DELETE the existing plugin
examples, and make something that works with modern tools, like Xcode.
That's what happens when people don't efficiently help each other do
things. What takes one person 1 hour to do, can save someone else one
day's time... or more. RS just can't be bothered, it seems. So your
time gets wasted. Rather let you waste a day of yours than an hour of
theirs.
Anyhow... the problem IS NOT a problem with your C++ skills. It is a
problem of plugin set up. Someone who is good in C++ can have problems
setting up the plugin.
Solution: zip your project up, upload it to a website, post the url
here, ask for someone to take a look at it and fix it.
Simple.
